Peace Parks (South Africa)

Democracy in South Africa brought peace with neighboring countries and Parks for Peace.

Peace Parks are multi-national parks which should help in the future to preserve peace. The Kruger National Park in South Africa is one of these. It borders Mozambique and Zimbabwe and is about as large as Belgium. The multi-national cooperation opens a park corridor approximately the size of Europe. More important than the size of the park, is the opportunity of more jobs for the people.

This vision has already started in a small way. When South Africa opened its borders, it also opened the park for its own people, the people of the Makuleke. They were removed from the park in 1969, but have now been given back their land. They want to use their part of the park for Tourism. The management of the Kruger Park helps them to do this.
