Ethiopian farmers select new grain types (Ethiopia)
From Ethiopia comes all our varieties of Barley.
Ethiopia is the center of Barley production. However, wheat and barley harvests have decreased by over 50%. The reason is fungus disease. Through culture materials returned from throughout the world, a resistant species for Ethiopia is sought. The farmers of Ethiopia have their own criteria. An exciting project combines plant breeders and sociologists working together. This has been designated the Participatory Breeding Research.
Our cameras show the rich culture of Ethiopia. Open and friendly people, shown beside swaying fields of grain. This from a land usually depicted on television as a drought-infested and poverty-stricken land.
